9 May 2019–The Quilt Show That Wasn’t

So today we drove down to Lancaster to the Quiltfest. It was an ugly cold day for May so I couldn’t really work outside if I wanted to anyway.

Now, this Quilt show was billed as “See what a 25 million dollar renovation can do!” If there was a 25 million dollar renovation at the hotel that hosted the show, it sure was missing. We get there and it was still under construction!

Construction materials, construction equipment, construction workers in hard hats everywhere. No place to park–we had to park in a field next to a mound of gravel. We get into the hotel and nothing is finished. The Lampeter Room was not a grand hotel room–it was more like an unfinished basement! And it was jam packed with vendors and all the quilts were jumbled in so you couldn’t really see them. It was a hot mess for sure!

You had to travel to the exposition center outside the main hotel. Inside, the lighting was not working and it kept going on and off. The space was nice enough but there was no refreshment station despite having chairs and tables available and again, the quilts were pushed to the side walls. As for having to walk outside to get there (we took a shuttle bus) you would think 25 million would include a covered concourse at the very least.

All the quilts were displayed in different areas. The Traditional Quilts were jammed into a closet that was supposed to be a ballroom and many on display were old quilts–one was in Quilters Newletter from 2010!

It was truly the Quilt Show that wasn’t. Very disappointing.
